Special Sundays have always been somewhat difficult for me from a teaching and preaching stand point. As you know this will be our first Christmas with the First English family. So I began several weeks ago exploring the holiday season. Joy asked me are we doing Advent as a part of our Christmas worship? My response was simple "I do not know". That conversation lead me to explore what I had done as a pastor concerning Advent. In my exploration I ran across this by my friends Bob and Easter Borroughs. When I was in Florida I had the honor of meeting and getting to know these great servants of God. Blow is an Excerpt of what they wrote about Christmas and Advent.
The first thing I would like you to note is the meaning opf the word Advent it means "Comming." Advent is the season of the church year that emphasizes the threefold coming of christ:
From a personal; stand point I wish I had celebrated Advent and spent more time doing it at home with Joy, Monica, Shannon , and Fletcher. One of my found memories about my dad was on Christmas eve after we had gone to church he would take the family bible that my grandmother gave him and he would sit down on the living room floor with the Christmas tree behind him and he would read the story out of the book of Luke and the he would say a prayer and we would sing the first verse of Silent night and go off to bed.
Blessings,
Warren
